User Guide: Activate the Desktop Version of Office 365 on Windows 11

If you've recently installed Microsoft Office or activated your subscription through office.com/setup, you may now be ready to launch and start using the full desktop version of Office 365 on your Windows 11 device. This guide will help you open and run apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and more for the first time.

Step 1: Complete Activation (If Not Done Already)

Open your web browser.

• Go to office.com/setup.
• Sign in using your Microsoft account (the one linked to your subscription or purchase).
• If required, enter your 25-digit product key and follow the on-screen instructions.
• Once activated, you’ll be redirected to your Office dashboard.

Step 2: Install Office 365 on Windows 11

• Go to office.com/setup and sign in again.
• Click the Install Office button located at the top right.
• Select Office 365 apps.
• The setup file will begin downloading.
• Once downloaded, open the file and allow permission to install.
• The installation will begin and may take a few minutes depending on your internet speed.

Step 3: Open Office Apps from the Start Menu

After installation:

• Click the Start Menu.
• Type the name of any Office app (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Click the app to open it.

Step 4: Sign In to Activate the Desktop App

• When the app launches for the first time, you’ll see a sign-in screen.
• Sign in with the same Microsoft account used at office.com/setup.
• Wait a few seconds — Office will activate automatically.
• Accept the license agreement and choose a theme if requested.

Step 5: Pin Office Apps for Easy Access (Optional)

To make Office apps easier to open next time:

• Right-click the application icon in the taskbar.
• Select Pin to Taskbar.

• Select Pin to Start or Pin to Taskbar.
